Teaching Staff
Reception Teacher / SENDCo – Miss Hudson
I have been teaching for 14 years and have taught EYFS and KS1. I enjoy teaching the whole curriculum but my favourite subjects to teach are English and Art. I love helping children reach their full potential and I aim to inspire them to develop a love of learning. I enjoy seeing children’s self-belief develop over the year and I aim for all children to leave my class feeling self-confident and resilient.
Reception Teacher – Mrs Pratt
I qualified in 2012 and taught for three years before taking maternity leave. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught KS1 and lower KS2. After a few years at home with my children, I was fortunate to secure a post at Martlesham as a Learning Support Assistant and after a year, I returned to teaching. I love for the children to be excited about their learning and I enjoy providing them with engaging learning opportunities which challenge their thinking.
Year 1 and 2 Teacher – Mrs Gifford
Since qualifying in 2010, I have taught in a variety of different schools and in a range of year groups. In recent years, I have pursued a career outside of the classroom, although still within the field of education. I am very excited to be back teaching and gain enjoyment from helping children overcome challenges and fulfil their potential in a fun and engaging setting.
Year 1 and 2 Teacher – Miss Aribas
As a primary school teacher with four years of experience, I’ve primarily worked with lower KS2 and KS1 students. I firmly believe in fostering a “can-do” attitude, encouraging children to persevere and give their best effort. Witnessing their achievements, nurtured through my guidance, brings me immense fulfilment. While I enjoy teaching all subjects, my passion lies particularly in food technology. I am dedicated to being a positive role model for my students, striving to inspire them to reach their full potential.
Year 3 Teacher – Miss Markham
I am an experienced teacher and have taught mostly in lower KS2. During my teacher training, I specialised in SEND but other passions of mine are Art and Design and Technology. I love to see the children meeting their full potential and will scaffold and support the children until they are successful in their learning. This is one of the reasons I love teaching, for those ‘light bulb’ moments.
Year 4 Teacher – Miss Mitchell
Throughout my time as a teacher, I have primarily taught in KS1 and lower KS2. I enjoy teaching all areas of the curriculum, but I have a passion for Art and Design. I firmly believe in the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere where all children can explore their interests, develop new skills, and reach their full potential.
Year 5 Teacher – Mr Thorpe
I am now entering my 8th year as a qualified teacher and I believe learning is best when it is exciting and engaging. I have many interests including Maths, PE and Computing. I aim to be a positive role model for all children and provide them with the knowledge and skills to grow into independent learners. I am excited to see all of the children at MPA flourish and fulfil their potential.
Year 6 Teacher – Miss Scrutton
I have been teaching for eight years and have taught throughout KS2. I love teaching because I enjoy building positive relationships with the children, identifying how they learn best and using this to support them to reach their potential. I enjoy teaching all areas of the curriculum, sparking the children’s interest and curiosity whilst making links to their previous learning.

Mrs Dodwell
I have been working at Martlesham Primary Academy for 6 years and absolutely love it! I started as an LSA and since then have trained to run Forest School sessions. I am a qualified Thrive Practitioner and DSL. I am extremely passionate about children’s wellbeing and being able to support all children to Thrive brings me lots of joy. Outside of school I am mum to 2 wonderful children, Ruby aged 14 and Jack 12. As a family we love theatre and can often be found watching a show together. My husband and children all perform in Deben Players of which I am safeguarding lead and chief chaperone.
