Our final Wilder Schools Day with the Royal Blue’s was an incredibly busy day!

With the beginning of Autumn here we really wanted to concentrate on creating spaces for hedgehogs. We learnt that hedgehogs need food to fatten themselves up at this time of year and that means insects, beetles, worms are favorite’s.

We learnt they need clean water that they can reach without risking drowning and we learnt they need leaves and log piles to create a hibernaculum (long word of the day), to hibernate in.

We need to allow our gardens to be a little messy, allow leaves to collect in piles and not to clear them all up. This is vitally important for our endangered hedgehogs. Just look at what we achieved through hard work, teamwork, practical skills and a little maths – either check out the pictures here or look in the school grounds when you come to school! Best of all, we had fun!
